A state Assembly panel has questioned EDD officials about the botched software upgrade that left thousands of Californians without their unemployment benefits.
Employment Development Director Sharon Hilliard began today with a healthy helping of humility,
"First and foremost though, I want to acknowledge and sincerely apologize to any of our customers who experienced delays in receiving their UI benefits."
Then she explained the progresss that has been made, saying,
"As of today our incoming email inquiries have dramatically decreased, and our Facebook and Twitter posts have returned to normal. The system is working..."
Today's testimony revealed that it took two weeks for the department to realize there were problems with the distribution of checks.
At least one worker who sounded an early alarm about the bugs was initially thought to be in need of more training.
