Thousands are scamming through Bay Area bridge tolls for free.

KTVU says thieves are stealing the temporary cardboard dealer license plates from new cars and using the non-traceable information to skirt through pay gates.

Vehicles that don't stop and pay at the toll plaza have their license plates photographed by a system of cameras. MTC says an average of 100-thousand "no plate" violations a month were racked up in a full year ending in August to the tune of almost five-million dollars in unpaid toll revenue.
