SACRAMENTO -- A former Sierra Oaks Elementary School teacher was sentenced today to 26 years in prison for molesting two boys in an after-school program.

Shane Vicars was convicted earlier this year of 13 counts of molestation involving the two boys. Prosecutors alleged the offenses took placed in 2008 and 2009 while Vicars was an instructor in Sierra Oaks' Discovery Club after-school program.The boys were between 7 and 11 at the time.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Emily Vasquez received 24 letters of support for Vicars, according to the Sacramento Bee. The judge said it appeared he was "a good man ... who lost his judgment in the most horrible way."

One of the victim's father's wrote "never in my wildest dreams" did he think his child would be at risk at school.
