Local Shops Hope to See Boost with Small Business Saturday

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, and it's a big deal to bottom lines.

The national effort to encourage local shopping kicked off a few years ago and since there are fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, independent stores need all the attention they can get.

Hundreds of locally owned shops in Midtown and Downtown Sacramento see the bulk of their revenues through the holidays.

"You've got businesses in Old Sacramento that are some great foodie and women's apparel to custom jewelers to a lot of really interesting arts and handmade merchandise within the Downtown Plaza," Lisa Martinez with the Downtown Sacramento Partnership said.

American Express is giving $10 credits for purchases of at least 10 bucks.
