ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Elk Grove Police are warning SMUD customers to be careful of individuls that are impersonating utility workers.

Officer Chris Trim says they've recieved a couple of reports this week of men trying to gain access to yards by saying they need to map out places for power lines.

One of the scammers is described as being a Hispanic or Indian male, in his late 30s or 40s, about 5-feet-8-inches tall, Trim said. There is no description of the other.

SMUD reminds its customers that all field crews carry photo identification -- most also wear official uniforms and will be driving marked vehicles. They'll also be able to give you a number to call to verify employment.

Earlier this week, robbers posed as animal control workers in Roseville, saying their were snakes on the loose.
