Bring it back. The effort to build a new Public Market in Sacramento is picking up steam.

Support for the idea is coming in from not only downtown and midtown residents but those who were part of the old market that's now the site of the Sheraton Hotel. Sam Kamilos' father had a stand.

"People would be lined up six and seven deep at the meat counter to be waited on," he said.

Lagging business led to the market's closure in the '70s, but Kamilos says now's the time for another -- a mix of permanent restaurants and vendors. Amy Thoma's helping get it off the ground.

"There's a team of folks involved. People who built the Oxbow Market and Ferry building in San Francisco and Napa," she said.

No word just yet on exactly where one would be built here.
