It's a night for kids, costumes and candy, but there's also a dark element to Halloween.

Halloween can be an especially dangerous time for kids. Safe Kids Worldwide President and CEO Kate Carr says parents should watch what their kids will wear trick or treating to ensure they stay safe when haunting the neighborhood.

"If it's a light color that's the best option, but if it's a darker costume add a little bit of reflective tape or some refective material that the headlights of a car will pick up and make it easier for a driver to see a kid on Halloween," Carr said.

Carr says the group is urging parents to accompany any child under the age of 12 and to go over the safety rules with all trick-or-treaters.
