Early Sunday morning someone smashed more than 30 windows of campus buildings and parked cars, and wrote what's being called a very direct racial slur across a chalkboard at Dutton Hall.

Campus officials are now speaking out. Chancellor Linda Katehi has sent a message to the student body, saying no act of hate will be tolerated and that she's particularly sadened by the timing, in light of the the Martin Luther King Jr. March on Washington anniversary this week.

Police have stepped up patrols going into the weekend, keeping a close eye on the buildings that were hit.
