It looks like the momentum behind One Direction is still far from slowing down.
The British boy band has topped the annual "Billboard" list, "21 Under 21," ranking the most successful young artists. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were runners-up on the list in 2012, behind Justin Bieber.
This year, the success of their massive world tour and concert movie the U.S. gives them the edge to earn the special recognition. It's the last year they will be eligible as well, as some members will be above the legal drinking age in the U.S. the next time "Billboard" starts ranking. Though One Direction has yet to release an album this year, their upcoming "Midnight Memories" is expected to turn out the sales again.
Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Earl Sweatshirt round out the list's top five. "X Factor" alums Emblem3, Fifth Harmony and Cher Lloyd all made the "21 Under 21" as well.
