ARC volunteer Tom Dodson will lead this exploration of the Granite Chief Wilderness Area from the Grayhorse Valley Trailhead. You will start the day with a hike up to the end of the Grayhorse Valley up to the crest. From the east you will be able to see the Granite Chief Wilderness (which ARC is adding 3,500 acres to). We will be camping at Whisky Creek for the evening. On Sunday you will be hiking down along Five Lakes Creek Trail. In the afternoon back up Shanks Cove Trails which has beautiful waterfalls and pools along the trail. This is an overnight trip, so bring your own backpack with supplies and food! Hike difficulty, intermediate – with 800 ft. elevation gains at the beginning and end of the hike, a total of 16 miles round trip. Age minimum: 12 years-old with backpacking experience. This is not a beginner’s hike.
