Dave Chappelle just won his very first Emmy award in the Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for hosting the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live.
On Nov. 12, Chappelle did the honors of hosting the comedic show, as A Tribe Called Quest served as special guest performers. The funnyman delivered a powerful monologue aimed at Donald Trump and spoke about a number of other topics like mass shooting, Black Lives Matter and more. In this show opening, Chappelle told the president to give everyone in the country a fair chance.
Chappelle would later apologize for telling Trump these words. He admitted that he never wanted to actually do that in the first place. The Saturday Night Live episode that the comedian hosted "delivered the franchise’s season high in adults 18-49 and total viewers, and the show’s highest 18-49 rating since 2013," Deadline reports. The comedic genius beat out other stars such as Tom Hanks and Lin-Manuel Miranda in the Emmy category.
Congratulations, Dave Chappelle! This achievement is long overdue.
