On Saturday, Donald Trump withdrew Steph Curryâs invitation to visit the White House , and now celebrities are reacting on Twitter. See the tweets below.
Curry first indicated back in June, that if the Golden State Warriors were invited to meet with the president as the 2016-2017 NBA champions, he wouldnât go. He reiterated that stance on Friday, revealing that he planned to cast a ânoâ vote when the team takes a poll on whether to make the trip. He explained to reporters at the Warriorsâ Media Day, âThe things that heâs said and the things that he hasnât said at the right times⊠we wonât stand for it. By acting and not going, hopefully that will inspire some change when it comes to what we tolerate in this country, what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye toward.â
The president fired back on Saturday morning, tweeting, âGoing to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!â
The tweet made âStephen Curryâ a trending topic on Twitter, and actually prompted rival LeBron James to tweet, âU bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ainât going! So therefore ainât no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!â Andy Cohen replied âHAHAHAHHA AMEN,â while Chrissy Teigen laughed over the âU bumâ line. Cohen also pointed out, âHOUSEWIVES PLAYBOOK: rescind invitations liberally! (See: Bethenny re LuAnn, Mexico; Bethenny & Ramona, Mexico.)â Seth Meyers also quipped about Trump, âSomebodyâs got their laid back weekend vibe working!â
âPerhaps itâs not a great honor while your stench is there,â slammed John Legend. Don Cheadle sarcastically replied to Trump, âIâm sure heâs crushed.â Jeffrey Wright praised, âWell done @StephenCurry30.â Joked Trevor Noah, ââYouâre not breaking up with me, Iâm breaking up with you!'â George Takei said to he president, âAnd just when you thought he couldnât get any more pettyâŠâ Ava DuVernay also wrote to him, âMan, nobody with any sense or self-respect considers it an honor to be within a 10 mile radius of you. It is known.â Karrueche Tran exclaimed, âHE WAS NEVER GOING IDIOT! PUERTO RICO IS WITHOUT POWER!! PUERTO RICO IS A PART OF THE US. YOU DO KNOW THAT RIGHT?!!â
Jesse Tyler Ferguson noted, âItâs an honor when the president is honorable.â And Jemele Hill, who earned Trumpâs ire on Twitter earlier this month for calling the president a white supremacist, tweeting with a laughing emoji, âHey @StephenCurry30, welcome to the club bro.â Meanwhile, Curryâs wife, Ayesha, shared an eye-roll emoji in response to the presidentâs tweet, and wrote, "Okay⊠Donate to earthquake relief here!!!â She included a link to UNICEF. The tweet against Curry came as stars were already ripping Trump for saying NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem should be fired.
