Newlywed Survives a Fall Into Volcano On Honeymoon

A couple from Indiana were enjoying their honeymoon on the Caribbean island of St Kitts when the new husband fell down into a dormant volcano and miraculously survived. Clay and Acaimie [[uh-CAY-me]] Chastain say they went for a hike up Mount Liamuiga [[LEE-uh-moo-ee-guh]] and he decided to get a better look into the volcano, but he fell down inside.

“One minute I’m climbing, the next second the world is spinning,” Clay says. His new bride was forced to follow him into the volcano to get him out and she was able to help him get back down the mountain where an ambulance met them and took him to the hospital. He suffered cracked vertebrae, a severe concussion, fractured his skull and lost hearing in his right ear, according to reports, but he’s alive and recovering.

The newlywed’s injuries prevented him from being able to fly home, but a GoFundMe campaignfor his medical expenses and an air ambulance back to the U.S. has raised over $35,000, so now he’s in a hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for further treatment. And the couple’s honeymoon miracle has a happy ending.
