Looks like the family of the late Aaliyah got their wish. Lifetime has put the production of a made-for-TV biopic about the late singer on hold after its star dropped out.

Zendaya was slated to play Aaliyah, but her rep told E! News that the Disney star was no longer involved in the project. Apparently there were production issues – including problems obtaining the rights to Aaliyah’s music.

The rep said, “Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya. She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right.” As you know, the family was against the Lifetime project because they feel like her life deserves more than a made-for-TV movie. The 17-year-old Disney Channel star said Sunday that she pulled out of the project because "production-wise, (it) wasn't all the way there."

"Because it's someone that I honor and I respect so much, it has to be 128 percent, especially for all her fans, including myself," Zendaya said on her way into the BET Awards,"I didn't feel like it was all the way there, so I didn't want to do that. And when the time comes when it's done right and it's 100 percent, by all means, I will be the first person there ready to go."
