Five years ago today (Monday), a memorial service for Michael Jackson was held at Los Angeles' Staples Center. The all-star celebration -- which took place 12 days after the death of the King of Pop and directly following a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery -- was attended by 17,500 people, selected from 1,600,000 million fans who applied for tickets. The broadcast and webcast was reportedly viewed by more than a billion fans around the world.

Performers and speakers at the event include Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou, Lionel Richie, John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Queen Latifah and The Reverend Al Sharpton, who famously addressed Jackson's children from the stage, saying, "Wasn't nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with."
Jackson's daughter, 11-year-old Paris also spoke, "I just want to say, ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine, and I just want to say I love him...so much."
What a powerful moment in history. We already know, Michael is gone...but the music lives forever. Check out pics of that Michael Jackson goodness:
