We’re gonna go out on a limb and say that Lily Tomlin probably hasn’t purchased a Beyoncé record. However, she knows enough to tell PrideSource that Jay-Z’s other half is “selling a lot of sex to teeny-boppers.”
The online publication asked the 74-year-old what she thought of Bey as a “modern-day feminist.” Tomlin’s rant wasn’t an expected response, and she tried to clarify her comments with, “She is a pretty popular woman and she’s married to a very powerful man. But she’s still selling sex.” When the interviewer pointed out that Bey’s fan base -- or the Beygency -- would be upset by her comments, Lily retracted her statement even more. She said, “I like her! I don’t dislike her! But I don’t pay any attention to that because – I mean, she’s a fantastically beautiful and dances, but you know, it’s very suggestive. If I was a 10-year-old, I would try to emulate her like most 10-year-olds do.”
But before you get upset with Lily, know this – the veteran comedienne takes issue with our culture being so sexualized for girls and women. And she said that she shouldn’t be talking about Beyoncé – after all, she’s not that familiar with Bey’s music – only her highly sexualized image.
