Just a few months after finalizing her divorce from the richest man in the world, MacKenzie Bezos is pledging to give away at least half of her fortune. She’s signed the Giving Pledge.
For those unfamiliar, the 'Pledge' was started by Bill Gates, Warren Buffettand seeks to encourage the very very rich to to give away more than half their money to charity or philanthropic causes either during their lifetime or in their wills.
MacKenzie became one of the richest people in the world since divorcing the Amazon founder earlier this year. Her personal fortune is now worth an estimated $36.6-billion. In a letter announcing her pledge to give, Bezos clearly has some plans. “My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful,” she writes. “It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
