Hundreds Of Strangers Come To Funeral Of Korean War Vet w/ No Living Family

Hundreds of people who’d never met Dale Quick attended his funeral to pay their respects to the Korean War veteran. With no known survivors, Roper and Sons Funeral Home issued a public appeal on its websiteasking veterans, veterans’ clubs, and the community to come to the service in Lincoln, Nebraska to “honor an individual who so selflessly served our country.”

The 91-year-old vet served his country from 1947 to 1955 and “led a simple life,” according to the funeral home. Quick had no known family left, but his great niece surprised the funeral home director by attending with her family. The Governor of Nebraska was even among the 300 strangers at the funeral.

"I think what it shows is that Lincoln is a very caring community,” explains GovernorPete Ricketts, “and they want to honor our veterans and even for someone they don't know, like Dale Quick, to come and pay their last respects."
