Jessica Chastain: The Movie Industry Is Changing For Women

Jessica Chastain has hope for Hollywood. While there’s still work to be done with it comes to diversifying casts, the actress says in a new interview with the Independentthat she already sees a chance in the movie industry when it comes to feminism.

For example, when she entered the industry, she recalls being told by male directors, “you’re talking too much about this woman stuff.” But thanks to women taking a stand with movements like #MeToo and Time’s Up, the next generation of actresses are more able to speak out without fearing for their careers.

“Things are different for women coming into this industry,” Chastain notes. “I just did a press tour with Sophie Turner, and the freedom she has to express herself about injustices, it just comes naturally to her without a second thought.”
