Police Confirm That Four Dead, 15 Injured At Famed Gilroy Garlic Festival

Police in Northern California have confirmed that four people, including a suspect, are dead in a shooting at the famed Garlic Festival in Gilroy. Police Chief Scot Smithee also says that at least 15 people were injured.

While details are still scarce, Smithee has said that officers engaged and killed the shooter in less than a minute. But there are also reports of a second person involved in the shooting. Smithee says investigators are still trying to sort out that that person was also a shooter – or simply aided the suspect, who has not been named.

What officials do know is that the suspect (or suspects) snuck into the festival by cutting through a perimeter fence, and that the gunman was armed with a rifle. Smithee says there is no motive for the shooting as yet, but that so far, it appears to be a random act of violence.
