Jay-Z and Will Smith are joining forces to produce a new TV series about the Civil Rights Movement.
According to Deadline, ABC is developing “Women of the Movement,” an anthology series that chronicles the lives of women who were actively involved in the movement. The first season will be based on the book, “Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement” by Devery S. Anderson.
Each of the eight episodes will tell the story from Mamie Till's point of view. Emmett’s momdedicated her life to seeking justice for son after his murder in the Jim Crow South. The network is also considering a second season to focus onRosa Parks.
Marissa Jo Cerarof “The Handmaid’s Tale” will write “Women of the Movement.” Aside from Roc Nation and Overbrook Entertainment, the project will also be produced by Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor from Kapital Entertainment.
