Clive Davis Says Whitney Houston Has “Earned” Her Hall Of Fame Nomination

Whitney Houston is one of the nominees for the 2020 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and legendary music exec Clive Davis, who helped launch Whitney’s career, thinks it’s about time.

When asked why he thinks it took so long, Clive tells “Billboard,” "It defies any logic. She’s earned it and deserves it.”

And Clive scoffs at anyone who may think Whitney is not rock and roll enough for the HOF. “Whitney is no more pop star than Darlene Love, Donna Summer, JanetJackson, all of whom are in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” he shares. “Moreover, Whitney is an all-time trendsetter. It was she who broke the MTV barrier for female black artists and was consistently among the most played MTV artists.” He adds, “She is up there with Aretha as influencing more young artists starting out than anyone else ever.”

As for whether he thinks she’ll actually be voted in, Clive notes, “I’m never optimistic. I’m a worrier but it is time for justice to be done.”
