Delta Flight Dumps Fuel On Los Angeles Area School Kids

At least 60 people, including nearly 20 elementary students and teachers at four different schools in Southern California, had to be treated after aviation fuel rained down on their playground. A Delta Air Lines flight had just taken off from Los Angeles International Airport enroute to Shanghai when it was forced to return. The plane landed safely.

First responders arriving at the school could be heard on Broadcastify.

The pilot of Delta flight 89 began dumping fuel at a low altitude about 15 miles away to bring down the landing weight without realizing he was over the Park Avenue Elementary School. Firefighters said several children reported skin irritation and a noxious smell, but no one had to be taken to the hospital.
