Kanye West is open and honest in the latest issue of WSJ. Magazine, where the rapper discussed his support for President Donald Trump.
"I'm a black guy with a red [MAGA] hat, can you imagine?" the rapper, 42, explained in the issue, which dropped on Wednesday (March 25). "It reminded me of how I felt as a black guy before I was famous, when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something. ‘This is your place, Ye, don’t talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you’re black, so you’re a Democrat.'"
West also said that he is not about putting people in categories. "Everything is about putting people in their place. Classism, protectionism—not just racism," he continued. "Classism is like living on a bookshelf. The more money you have, the higher you go. And you get to the top and look over and what do you see? Fear."
Despite his support for POTUS, West said that he doesn't follow politics and isn't even registered to vote. Nonetheless, he's described as having "unusual access to the Trump administration." In fact, the WSC. Magazine feature recalls the time that West called Jared Kushner at the White House from his swimming pool in Calabasas to discuss freeing A$AP Rocky from custody in Stockholm, Sweden.
Beyond politics, West spoke about having a nervous breakdown, referencing one of Ryan Reynolds's biggest films. "I've been through Deadpool. You know that movie? I had an actual mental breakdown from attempting to put together all of the pieces," he explained.
