Derek Chauvin Charges Increased to 2nd Degree Murder

A step in the right direction.

It was just announced charges for Derek Chauvin have been increased to 2nd Degree Murder in the killing of George Floyd.

Members and supporters of the black community were outraged when it was initially announced Chauvin would be charged with 3rd degree murder. 3rd degree murder means the killing was unintentional, but the offender did something eminently dangerous to others, acting with a depraved mind and without regard for human life. People found this charge unfitting being that Chauvin knelt into Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, while he was already handcuffed, as Floyd yelled and pleaded "Please!", "I can't breathe!" "Mama" "The knee in my neck! I can't breathe!" until his body went limp. During the time that Floyd was unconscious, Chauvin remained on his neck until paramedics arrived.

Today, Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Elison, increased Chauvin's charge to 2nd degree murder which means the murder was was NOT premeditated, but WAS in fact, intentional and caused by the offender's reckless conduct that displays and obvious lack of concern for human life.

In the state of Minnesota, this charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 25 years and/or up to a $40,000 fine.

It was also announced the remaining three officers involved in George Floyd's killing will all be charged with aiding and abetting 2nd degree murder.
