The woman at the center of one of the most controversial sex scandals has died. Mary Kay Letourneau, the former middle school teacher who infamously engaged in a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old student, has died of stage 4 cancer at the age of 58.
Letourneau was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for the child rape of Vili Fualaau, and twice became pregnant by him before he turned 15. After she was released from prison, the two eventually married in 2005 before legally separating in 2017.
She reportedly had been battling cancer for a few months.
