Dwyane Wade & Gabrielle Union Celebrate Daughter At 2020 GLAAD Media Awards

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are proud parents to their 13-year-old daughter, Zaya, and they made sure that attendees of the 2020 GLAAD Media Awards knew just that.

On Thursday (July 30), the superstar couple took to the virtual ceremony to present the award for Outstanding Drama Series to the cast of Pose and snuck in some kind words directed at the teen. "We stand as allies with the LGBTQ+ community, as proud parents of a transgender child," the former NBA player told viewers with his wife by his side. "Our daughter Zaya is leading us on our journey, and we're doing all we can to give every one of our kids the ability to live their truth."

"I didn't always understand how to do that, but I want to thank Zaya for teaching me," Wade said, adding that the LGBTQ+ organization has elevated "the images and messages that accelerate acceptance in every family."

Union, who wore a look designed by No Sesso ("no sex/no gender"), went on to explain that the mission of acceptance means more than ever as they raise all their Black children. "Black lives matter, and Black trans lives matter," she said. "We are calling on all of our racial justice warriors out there to open your hearts and your mind to the LGBTQ+ community, so that we can work together and empower each other and save lives," the actress continued, before the pair presented the award.
