“Peter Rabbit” Backlash: Movie Criticized For “Allergy Bullying”

The new “Peter Rabbit” movie is taking some heat  for a scene a group of parents is calling “allergy bullying.” At issue is a scene in which a gang of bunnies attack a man with blackberries, knowing he's allegoric to them. And these people are so upset, they're calling for a boycott - and speaking out online with the hashtag #boycottpeterrabbit.

In the scene, Peter Rabbit and his friends attack the nephew of Peter’s nemesis Mr. McGregor with blackberries. They know Tom McGregor is allergic to the berries and even shoot one in his mouth.

The Kids With Food Allergies Foundation posted on Facebook warning parents about the film that “food allergy ‘jokes’ are harmful to our community.” Sony Pictures apparently agrees saying they “should have not made light” of a character being allergic to blackberries “even in a cartoonish” way.
