There was a time in the not-so-distant past when Spike Lee was hot-headed enough to respond to every criticism thrown at him. Not anymore.
In case you missed it, Boots Riley took Spike to task over his latest joint, “BlacKkKlansman,” last week. In a three-page essay, the “Sorry to Bother You” director said that Spike fabricated story points to make a Black cop and his counterparts look like allies in the fight against racism. He called, “really disappointing, to put it very mildly.”
When Spike was asked about Boots’ comments, he said that he was “done” engaging in public feuds with other notable names in Hollywood. The way he sees it, “When I get a hint that this stuff is maybe going to dilute the message of my film, I know it is not going to do me any good to comment.”
