Fans of the “Superman” franchise were ready to say goodbye to Henry Cavill following “The Hollywood Reporter’s” recent report that the actor wouldn’t be returning to the role. But now that Warner Bros. has responded to the rumors, everything seems up, up in the air.
The initial story cited a source’s claim that Cavill was hanging up the red cape after a contract around a possible Superman cameo in the upcoming film “Shazam!” fell through. It was believed to be further backed up by the fact that not only has Warner Bros been shifting their attention towards “Supergirl,” but the actor has also signed on to star in the Netflix series “The Witcher.” However, in a new statement, Warner Bros. presses that “no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films.”
Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia also chimes in on the rumors via Twitter, writing, “Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. [Warner Bros Pictures] has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe.” Not only that, but the actor himself posted a cryptic video on Instagram showing off his Superman merch, captioned “Today was exciting.” Something tells us that it wouldn’t be such an “exciting” day if he had just lost his big role in the franchise, but we’ll keep you superhero fans posted as the story develops.
