School Cuts Speech When Valedictorian Brings Up Black Teens Who Were Killed

A high school valedictorian says the school cut off her microphone mid-speech when she brought up the names of black teens who were killed.

Rooha Hadghar of Emmett J. Conrad High School in Dallas says she included the names of Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice in the first draft of her speech, but was told by school officials to cut them out.

At the ceremony, Haghar went off-script and mentioned the names anyway before her microphone cut off. Haghar says she was told it was a 'technical difficulty'. The school has not yet responded to the incident.

Do you buy the 'technical difficulty' excuse? Should schools censor a student's speech? Is a graduation ceremony the right place to bring up politics?
