Shooting At YouTube HQ Believed May Have Been Over Web Content?

posted by Big Al -

While officials initially reported that a “domestic dispute” was believed to be the cause of yesterday’s shooting at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, California. There’s now a different theory – and it’s not believed to be terrorism.

It’s not confirmed as the motive, but the alleged shooter, Nasim Aghdam, has posted videos complaining that the company "discriminated and filtered" her content. She also had a website which features several references to her being vegan and has graphic content of animals being killed.

What police are saying for certain is that three officers arrived within two minutes of the initial call of shots fired, but they’re also saying that this could have been random. While police continue to investigate, they also said last night that for the moment, "there is no evidence that the shooter knew the victims of this shooting or that individuals were specifically targeted."

  • San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini says that four people were taken to the hospital for injuries, three of them for gunshot wounds and one for an ankle injury. A man in his 30s is still being treated at San Francisco General Hospital and was last listed in critical condition. Two other women were taken there and are listed in serious and fair condition, respectively. As for Aghdam, she reportedly turned her gun on herself and was confirmed dead on the scene.
  • YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has taken to Twitter to comment on the incident. “There are no words to describe how horrible it was to have an active shooter @YouTube today,” she writes. “Our deepest gratitude to law enforcement & first responders for their rapid response. Our hearts go out to all those injured & impacted today. We will come together to heal as a family.”
