#StrangerThings: Producers Deny Stealing Filmmaker's Idea

A filmmaker who is suing the producers of the TV hit Stranger Things for ripping off his idea has been handed a major blow to his case.

Matt and Ross Duffer have provided E-mails from 2010 which show that they were working on a "real," "paranormal" "gritty '80s" show that was originally called Montauk, named for the Long Island town where it would be set. That predates by more than three years a meeting filmmaker Charlie Kessler claims he had with the Duffer brothers to pitch a similar show, also titled Montauk.

Kessler claims he never heard back from the brothers after their meeting and was shocked when Stranger Things premiered in 2016. But a lawyer for the Duffer brothers says, "These documents prove that Mr. Kessler had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of Stranger Things. The Duffer brothers were developing their project years before he claims to have met them."
