It’s Girl Scout Cookie season and Troop 6000, which is comprised of homeless girls, showed out and surpassed their goal at their first ever cookie sale.
The troop set up shop in Union Squarein New York City witha target of selling 6,000 boxes. The little ladies sold over 17,000. This is the first troop to serve homeless girls in the US.
Last summer, Mayor Bill De Blasio partnered with the Department of Homeless Services and the Girl Scouts of Greater New York chapter to invest a million dollars over a three-year expansion period. The CEO of the chapter, Meredith Maskara, explained, “We established the troop to go into the shelters, to deliver the program to the girls there, [and] to provide consistency.” Proceeds will go towards funding trips, uniforms and activities for the girls.
It’s not too late to get your Samoa cookie fix or any of the Girl Scout cookie flavors. You can purchase Troop 6000 cookies on their website.
