No war to be had here, that’s because “Avengers: Infinity War” has crushed the box office once again. It’s earned $61.8-million in its third weekend, dropping 46 percent since opening, but that’s certainly not a bad thing. In fact, that makes the movie the fourth-biggest, third weekend of all time right behind “Black Panther,” “Avatar,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The film also officially cracked the $500-million mark making it the second fastest film to do so. “Infinity War” is also on the path to surpass “Jurassic World’s” cap at $652-million and possibly become the biggest summer movie release ever, according to “Forbes.” Even with the huge releases of “Deadpool 2” this week and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” next, “Avengers” predictably won’t be too affected in numbers and should hit the $650-million mark no problem.
Melissa McCarthy’s “Life of the Party” opened this week raking in second with $18.5-million and while it was spot on as far as industry projections, it fell short of McCarthy’s other films like “Tammy” that grossed $21.6-million in its opening and “The Boss” with $23.6-million. Gabrielle Union’s “Breaking In” also had a solid start in its opening weekend, coming in at number three at the box office.
- “Avengers: Infinity War” — $61.8 million
- “Life of the Party” — $18.5 million
- “Breaking In” — $16.5 million
- “Overboard” — $10.1 million
- . “A Quiet Place” — $6.4 million
