Big Al's Weekend Movie Box Office Recap

The female-led “Ocean’s 8” stole the show at the box office the weekend.

The film raked in $41.5-million, knocking “Solo: A Star Wars Story” off the top spot. The film came in on the higher end of industry projections and even had a bigger opening than the other movies in the “Ocean’s” franchise- even though it hasn’t been adjusted for inflation yet.

The film stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter, who’s characters plot a major heist on the Met Gala in New York City. The female-led cast may have had an impact on the crowd, which was 69-percent female.

Horror movie “Hereditary” also opened this weekend and though it received a D-plus on CinemaScore, it still managed to make the top five in the box office.

1. “Ocean’s 8” — $41.5 million

2. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” — $15.2 million

3. “Deadpool 2” — $13.7 million

4. “Hereditary” — $13 million

5. “Avengers: Infinity War” — $6.8 million
