When childhood friends played against each other on opposing teams at a recent Minnesota high school baseball playoff game, pitcher Ty Koehnstuck out his buddy Jack Kocon. It won the game for Koehnâs team, allowing them to advance to the state tournament. And when his fellow players ran onto the field to celebrate their win, he went in the opposite direction.
The pitcher headed towards his friend and gave Kocon a big hug and some words of encouragement. The boys had played little league together growing up and Koehn knew their friendship was more important. âIt just felt like the right thing to do,â he says.
And for Kocon, it was a moment heâll always remember. âI as just thinking in 20 years Iâm not gonna remember the score of that game,â he says. âBut Iâm gonna remember him coming up to me after that and just kind of being there for me when I needed someone.â
