Fans at baseball games assume the risk of foul balls flying into the stands, but one fan at Monday night's Philadelphia Phillies game was hit by something she never expected -- a flying hot dog.
The Phillies' beloved mascot, the Phanatic, came out on the field with a special hot dog launcher and fired tightly-wrapped hot dogs into the crowd for hungry fans. Unfortunately, Kathy McVay wasn't able to get her hands up in time to shield her face from the flying frankfurter, and the meaty projectile struck her in the eye.
McVay says the direct shot caused a hematoma in her eye and she needed a CT scan to check for a concussion. She's a big Phillies fan and has no intention of suing the team. She just wants to warn people to pay close attention to everything going on at the game. The Phillies, meanwhile, have apologized and offered her free tickets to another game. (ESPN)
