The BET Awards -- Here's A Recap & Winners List

posted by Big Al -

The 2018 BET Awards were long on performances, but short on actual awards. There were only a few awards actually given out during the televised ceremony, including Movie of Year, Best Collaboration, Best New Artist, and Best Actress. Those went to “Black Panther,” “Wild Thoughts,” DJ Khaled featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, SZA, and Tiffany Haddish, respectively.

The performances were the real highlight. Here’s a look at a few standouts:

  • A collection of Philly natives – Kevin Hart, Lil Uzi, and The Roots– introduced Meek Mill. His stirring performance of “Stay Woke” with Miguel featured a child being gunned down by the police. Speaking of Miguel, his solo set was pretty good. He did “Come Through and Chill” and “Skywalker.”
  • Nicki Minaj was on hand to do “Chun Li” and “Rich Sex.” Lil Waynewasn’t available to do his verse, but she joined YG on his hit, “Big Bank,” along with Big Sean and 2Chainz
  • The Anita Baker tribute was nice, too. Host Jamie Foxx sat down at the piano and performed a medley of her hits before bringing up Marsha Ambrosius, Ledisi, and gospel artist Yolanda Adams
  • Speaking of gospel music, the finale featured Snoop Dogg performing “You” with Tye Tribbett from Snoop’s latest release – a gospel album called “Bible of Love.” Yes…let that sink in.

Oh, lest we forget – Nipsey Hussle got the award for bringing the pre-show drama. There’s a video circulating that shows him slapping a BET employee who dared to challenge him on a parking space. You can check that out HERE. Afterwards, he performed like nothing happened.

Anyway, here’s a list of the major winners. For a complete list, click HERE
