The Pittsburgh, PA police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager last week has been formally charged with criminal homicide.
Officer Michael Rosfeld shot 17-year-old Antwon Rose after he and another person ran from their car, which had been pulled over by police. Rose was unarmed at the time, but officers found two handguns inside the car. The shooting was captured on a cellphone video, which sparked outrage in the community and set off a few nights of protests in the streets.
The 30-year-old officer had just been sworn in to the Pittsburgh Police Department two hours before the shooting, but had worked as an officer for other police departments in the area for seven years. He turned himself in this morning and was released on $250,000 bond.
