LeBron James may be heading to Los Angeles to play for the Lakers, but he hasn't forgotten about his hometown.
On Monday, the I Promise School opened up in Akron, Ohio. Focusing on at-risk third- and fourth-graders, the school was created through a partnership between the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools.
The basketball superstar, who's won NBA championships and MVP trophies, called the school project the most meaningful accomplishment of his career. When he was in fourth grade, he was absent for more than 80 days due to his turbulent family life.
LeBron told ESPN, "It's kind of a bittersweet moment right now, sitting here in my school that I'm opening around these kids, around this community and then at the same time, making a switch to the other coast, being a part of the Lakers now." (ESPN)
