A Florida man is dead after mistakenly thinking his girlfriend had taken an Uber.
Polk County Sheriff's officials say a case of mistaken identity led to the death of Jason Boek. He reportedly thought his girlfriend was riding in an Uber early Tuesday after a night of drinking, then tried to chase the vehicle off the road while threatening the driver.
Boek walked up to the Uber after cutting it off and reportedly said You know, I got a pistol. You want me to shoot you?” He then reached for his cell phone and that’s when Uber driver Robert Westlake, fired a single shot, killing Boek.
Westlake, it turns out has a conceal carry permit and had just finished training at a police academy. Sheriff Grady Judd warned others about acting before thinking. “The message is clear. Don’t mess with an Uber driver. Leave the Uber driver alone, because he just may be a certified police officer in waiting,”
Neither Westlake, Boek, or the Uber passenger knew each other. Authorities say Westlake is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Source: WFTV
