Lots of young girls dream of being models, but that dream just came true for Marian Avila, a 21-year-old model from Spain who has Down syndrome. She wanted to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week and thanks to an Atlanta designer, she did.
Avila strutted her stuff and showed off designs by Talisha White, who focuses on creating prom, pageant, and special occasion outfits. When White heard about Avila’s fashion week dream, she reached out to her on Facebook and made it all happen. Now the young model is getting a lot of attention doing something she loves.
“I felt really happy and I really loved the runway,” Avila says through a translator. “I wanted to show the world that there are no barriers.”
