Nobel Prize Winner Will Donate Her Winnings To Help Sex Crime Survivors

Nadia Murad, one of the winners of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, pledges to donate the entire $500,000 she won to victims of sex crimes. The Iraqi human rights activist was abducted by Islamic State militants when she was 19 and said in her acceptance speech that she’s giving all the prize money to her organization, Nadia’s Initiative, which helps Iraqi women and minorities.

“I commit 100% of the money, at least my share, to the goals and work we are currently doing,” the 25-year-old activist said. “And that we will do in the future.”
