A man in Brooklyn, New York used a clever way to help find an organ donor his wife – he went to Target. Raymond Thompson said his wife was diagnosed with a kidney disease two years ago. Since the kidney transplant waitlist can take years to find match, he decided to wear a sign on his backpack that read, “In need of a kidney for my wife B+ 917-442-6202.”
It caught the attention of writer and editor Lilit Marcus. He snapped a photo to share on Twitter. The post quickly went viral and dozens of people replied offering to be a donor.
Thanks to the outpouring responses, Raymond and his wife can start contacting those who reached out. “Sickness doesn’t care who you are,” he shared. “I appreciate everyone who reaches out. It means a lot to us to get the message out there.”
