Jada Pinkett Smith addressed “Surviving R. Kelly” in a two-part Red Table Talk special. In part one, which dropped on Friday, she said she watched it with her daughter, Willow, and her mom, Adrienne Banfield-Norris. The three of them spoke of the complicity of not only R. Kelly’s entourage, but also the Black community as a whole.
Lisa Van Allen was their special guest. She was one of the many women featured in the Lifetime docuseries and was also featured on one of the tapes used to bring him to trial where he was ultimately acquitted. She opened up about how she was abuse during her time in foster care – a fact that Kelly used to manipulate her. He also shared his own abuse with her. While she knew he was sick, she failed to call the cops on him because she loved him so much and thought she could “save” him.
Another thing Kelz told Lisa was about his “pins in eyeballs” pact. The way he saw it, she wasn’t to share with anyone the details of their relationship – even if someone sticks pins in your eyeballs. He also said it was the same pact he had with Aaliyah – one she took to her grave.
- On tomorrow’s edition of “Red Table Talk,” Lisa brings in her 16-year-old daughter, who touched on how it was to be raised by a victim of abuse.
