Everyone is sending his or her love and well wishes to Jussie Smollett in the wake of the horrific attack he suffered. Kevin Hart took to social media to send prayers. “This is unbelievably sad,” he said. “Why are we going backwards? This is disgusting. We as [a] people have to do better.” After imploring people to choose love, he added, “Stay strong, brother.”
Clearly it must be too soon for Kevin – whose past homophobic tweets ad jokes – to comment because several users came for him. TV writer Ira Madison III said , “This is why someone’s jokes about beating their gay son were never funny.” Sally Fields ’ son, Sam Greisman added , “But keep joking about beating up your kid for being gay, Kevin Hart!” Still another person was even more blunt – “Keep [your] tears [and] prayers. This is why [your] joke was important and such an issue.” So far, the comedian hasn’t responded.
Meanwhile, Jussie’s “Empire” co-stars are opening up about the attack. Terrence Howard appeared on Good Morning America yesterday and said that when they found out what happened, “Jaws dropped to the ground.” The shock turned to fear when they realized that there had been threats against their co-star. As for Jussie’s state of mind, Terrence said, “He’s angry, but I know Jussie. Jussie’s anger will dissipate, and he will forgive these people for what they did. But he won’t, and we cannot, forget their actions. They have to be forgiven because it was done out of ignorance.” Taraji P. Henson posted a clip of Smollett’s song, “FUW.” In the caption, she said “I wish what happened to my baby was just one big bad joke but it wasn’t and we all feel his pain right now.” The actress – who plays his mother, Cookie – went on to say, “My baby is resilient and love still lives in him. The devil and his minions are very busy right now but one thing is for sure and two things are for certain #GODIS and that is all I know.
- Even Kenan Thompson mentioned it during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.” The “Saturday Night Live” star said he would’ve said something on his newly-created Instagram account, but he thought the show would be a much bigger platform.
