Gucci is in the under fire after releasing a sweater that many are saying resembles blackface.
After receiving wide spread backlash Gucci removed the controversial sweater from stores and issued a public apology. Even so, several public figures are calling for the boycott of the designer brand. Most recently, 'Do The Right Thing' director Spike Lee has publicly renounced the brand "until they hire some black designers".
Spike Lee posted his boycott message via Instagram. He captioned the post:
"I, Spike Lee Of Sound Mind And Body Will No Longer Wear Prada Or Gucci Until they Hire Some Black Designers" To Be In Da Room When It Happens". It's Obvious To Da Peoples That They Don't Have A Clue When It Comes To Racist, Blackface Hateful Imagery. WAKE UP. Ya-Dig? Sho-Nuf. And Dat's Da "Coonery And Buffoonery" Truth, Ruth."
