These days, British boxer Tyson Fury is a heavyweight boxing champion, but he spent years struggling with drug addiction and mental health issues. So when he won millions in a fight recently, instead of spending his money on sports cars or luxury items, he donated it all to charities that support recovering addicts and alcoholics.
Fury, who’s also known as “The Gypsy King” in the ring, fought Deontay Wilder in December and his purse was around $3.5-million for the fight. But when you add in the pay-per-view income, he got about $9-million. And that kind of money can do a lot of good.
“I did give away my last purse, but I don’t do charity work for a pat on the back,” Fury explains.“I do it to help people, but I do not want praise for it, I don’t want to be called a do-gooder.”
