He won’t pay up, so now the city of Chicago is going to sue Jussie Smollettover his claims that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack. Chicago's Law Department is now drafting a lawsuit demanding the “Empire” star pay for the costs of the investigation into what they say ended up being a false report.
The City had asked Smollett to pay 130-thousand-dollars. That payment was expected by yesterday – and when it didn’t arrive, the City made its move. While officials can actually ask for three times the actual cost – $390-thousand dollars – it’s unclear if they will.
Smollett claimed he was beaten by two men back in January, but police later said he made it all up. He was charged over the incident, but the charges were abruptly (and controversially) dropped by prosecutors. Here’s the thing, to win the case, Chicago has to prove that Smollett faked the alleged attack. That means all the evidence collected by investigators will finally see the light of day.
- Meanwhile…ever since Cook County State's AttorneyKim Foxxdecided on an “alternative disposition” in Smollett’s case (which had his charges dropped for $10-grand and two days of community service) her relationship with the Chicago Police Department has been bumpy, at best. Now the Fraternal Order of Police has confirmed that the three associations across suburban Chicagohave voted that they have "no confidence”in Foxx and demanded her resignation. They say it’s not just about the Smollett case, but also a number of other questionable decisions.
